Re: Delivering a knife
This 951 Belt knife is a new design prompted by a customer who had used a similar but much smaller knife and asked for this scaled up version with heavy thumb jimping for general use (skinning etc) and lighter forefinger jimping for when it is being used as a capping knife. The orange liners under the scalloped OD canvas micarta add a splash of colour to this otherwise very utilitarian knife and the 15* down horrozontal closed top sheath to keep it handy but out of the way.

Re: Delivering a knife
I made my first knife in the late 60's and made them for myself right through till I showed the guys on the Africa Hunting forum the making of a new skinning knife for myself and was asked to make one for one of them. i was well and truly retired by then and the forum seemed adopt me as their knifemaker so made a great many more for them and others who heard of my work. I am getting close to 1000 made and shipped knife # 960 away yesterday. Have something special in mind for knife #1000 that will be auctioned for a charity. 90% of what I make goes to forum members and have gone to 10 countries so far but the majority goes to the US. A couple of collectors have commissioned some rather special pieces and having started with hunting knives have gone into a lot of kitchen and chef knives as well. A facinating addiction and I get to work with some beautiful woods from all over the world mostly from two supply outlets with one in the US and the other in Lithuania.
This is a bit long but is one of the more memorable knives I made for a collector friend in AU. A 13th century Templar knights dagger forged on a power hammer I made, ground on a belt grinder I made heat treated in one of the two forges I made and heat treated in one of the two forges I made.
I have a website if you want to see more of what I offer. https://www.vongruffknives.com/

A new pattern for me was this Loveless style from 5mm O1 steel, 416 stainless bolster, stainless corby bolts for the buffalo horn handle on the 4 1/2 in blade and weighs in at a hefty 11 oz. The honing steel is handled with a piece of sable horn.

Re: Delivering a knife
These posts will reduce considerably after the next couple of weeks as I have decided that it is time for me to slow down on that side of my retirement and enjoy a bit more of the free time that will allow. In the meantime, this mix of 2 meat and 3 kitchen knives all in cryo quenched NitroV stainless with resin ivory handles show the 10 inch cimiter, 7 1/2 inch Byrd camp knife, Bearded chef, 6 inch K-tip general use and the little 4 inch euro paring knife are all away to Florida today.

Re: Delivering a knife
It has been 7 years of almost full time work and just on 1000 knives after early retirement so 2nd time round has to be the one that holds. Lots of roads to ride, garden to get back in order and time away in the caravan but no doubt there will still be time playing in the shed making stuff but on my terms from now on.
