117 CVO Street Glide - The dreaded tick
117 CVO Street Glide - The dreaded tick
๐
I've just picked up a 2011 CVO Street Glide (110) with 117 conversion kit and stage 4 done.
The only niggly thing is that the engine has a tick to it. It doesn't seem to get quieter when the bike is warm, and doesn't seem to get louder with revs.ย
The mods include a lumpy cam and perfect fit HD pushrods, so the tick "shouldn't" be coming from the pushrods.
Does anyone have experience with the touring/Dyna 110 bottom end and the dreaded tick? I've heard it can be all sorts if it isn't the pushrods, right down to requiring a full rebuild. The stage 3 and 117 conversion was only done about 3000-4000 km's ago, by Harley Davidson.
Seeking all relevant info if anyone has any! I'll have a hunt online too over the next few days, and maybe get it down to Harley to inspect, although the seller said he's had services and WOF's through Harley and they never mentioned a thing. I do know Harley can be hit and miss with things like this though.
Thanks!ย

Re: 117 CVO Street Glide - The dreaded tick
Hmm I've heard the same thing over the years, about 50/50 with regards to a tick being "normal" and needing to get it checked out.
Can't hurt to have it checked out. If Harley did the work they should have info on their system as to exactly what was done and when, even if it was a different dealership/workshop than the one you take it to. Not sure what they'd charge to inspect though - I'd imagine it wouldn't be cheap. They'll either have to cut and replace the pushrods or take the tank and top end/rockers off to get the pushrods out - both will be a little time consuming. Could have a look yourself if you've worked on Harley's before?
Hopefully someone else with 110 knowledge can chime in!

Not at this moment but I'll throw one up today/tomorrow if I get a chance.
Taking it down to North Auckland Harley tomorrow to have their lead mechanic have a listen and hopefully let me know if it's anything to worry about (that needs the engine to be taken apart).
Fingers crossed!

Re: 117 CVO Street Glide - The dreaded tick
Hoping you find that it is not needing a teardown to sort and better still that it is not anything to be concerned about other than the actual annoying sound.
Re: 117 CVO Street Glide - The dreaded tick
I took it to Harley yesterday and it's not looking good. Their tech said the sound is definitely a concern and could be a number of things. Next step is a leak down and compression test. And if those came back ok then the engine will need a tear down top to bottom until the issue is found.
Going to call the seller today and fill him in and let him decide - pay to fix it or full refund. I purchased the bike as being "a perfect runner and having no issues at all". Not happy.

That is sad news so hope the seller is not the dick he sounds like as he must have known there was an issue developing so false advertising at leastย

Re: 117 CVO Street Glide - The dreaded tick
Looks like I'm returning it for a refund - the seller won't pay for any required repairs even though it was sold as "running perfect" and "having no issues". So I won't bother taking it for diagnostics as he wanted me to pay half of that.
Now I need to find another bike, againย ๐๐

So will you start out looking for something specific or cruise and see what is available that you might fancy.bronx wrote: โ21 Aug 2023, 9:26 am Looks like I'm returning it for a refund - the seller won't pay for any required repairs even though it was sold as "running perfect" and "having no issues". I definitely want a big bagger so will keep hunting for a Street Glide/Road Glide, possibly even a Road King.
