Identifying what cams you have

by Dave -

Any tips or info on identifying exactly what cams are installed on a v-twin?

A mate knows his cams are aftermarket as they have a lump to them at idle, but he's curious to know if there's a way to identify what cams/grind he has by looking at them or measuring them. So I said I'd ask on here.

Anyone in the know?

Hmm AFAIK it's only possible to tell from either a stamp (e.g. S&S) or from using a cam tool to measure lift and duration.

Are the cams out? Has he checked for stamps or markings on it with numbers/letters/logos?

I haven't done this myself, by good ol' Dr. Harley says the same as @R3DRUM. You'll need to look for a stamp or measure and search the web for matching measurements from cam manufacturers.
