I've just finished fitting a 17" rear wheel to my '07 sporty so I can use decent tyres on it. I couldn't stand the crossplys, and the 16" rear wheel meant you couldn't use anything else. So after a bit of hunting on the net, and some advice from an american forum, I got my hands on a 17X4.50 Dyna rear wheel. Not sure of the year unfortunately, the trade-me seller didn't have it listed. Got it here (it came without internal spacer and 1 bearing), got the 16 out of the bike and got to work with some measuring gear. Well f*ck me, everything measured up the same. Knocked the bearings outta the 16, stole the inner spacer, threw it with some new bearings into the 17, swapped the sprocket/disk and literally bolted it on using the original sporty external spacers. 😎
Did some hunting of tyre sizes in radials, and came up with a 170/60 17 rear and a 110/80 19 front combo. Went with Pirelli angels, mostly because I could get 'em through work, but I also ran Pirellis on my sportbikes and liked them. Front is a little lower than the stock 100/90, but not much.
I also fitted a bigger front brake (posted in the brakes section) and a couple of other small bits.
I absolutely love it, it gives so much more confidence in the twistys now, it's like a different bike.
