Tips for removing pushrods from an 88ci v-twin? Without cutting them 😁
Just trying to figure out how to align the pistons/cams to get pressure off all 4 pushrods (if that's possible?) in order to remove the rocker arms and then pushrods. Everything I find online only mentions doing one cylinder.

I sure did haha but unfortunately it was a bit ambiguous like everything else we managed to find online regarding this topic 😅

This one is about cam change but dose do the bolt cutter pushrod removal but having said that if you are removing the rocker box cover you could also use the technique to remove the front pushrods then do the rear the way this guy shows the procedure. All happens within the first 5 minues.
Re: Tips for removing pushrods from an 88ci v-twin?
Mate, I think that's perfect. I was mainly concerned once I had one pair of pushrods out if I rotated the engine more to get the other pair free, if it would throw any timing or alignment out. By the looks of that video it doesn't. Big help! Thanks @VonGruff
Re: Tips for removing pushrods from an 88ci v-twin?
I just had to do the exact same thing re; removing the pushrods to get into the cam area to find out what all the noise was about with the new bike I bought.... Turns out the outer cam chain tensioner was non existent/exploded (that's pieces of it in the cam chest) 😂
Lesson re-learned = don't buy Harley's from 🤡's
PS thanks for that video linked above @VonGruff it helped me as well!

This is the cam chain tensioners that I will get when I do my cam chest next winter. https://cycogasket.com/99-05.html

Scary not finding the pin. Lucky there wasn't a LOT of damage from the breakup.bronx wrote: ↑20 Sep 2023, 4:42 pmNice and cheap!VonGruff wrote: ↑20 Sep 2023, 3:51 pm This is the cam chain tensioners that I will get when I do my cam chest next winter. https://cycogasket.com/99-05.html

Yep, and the issue is where the hell did the pin go. I'm yet to cut open the oil filter but I don't see how it would make it that far. Oil pump and internals look ok too.VonGruff wrote: ↑20 Sep 2023, 4:46 pmScary not finding the pin. It is a substantial piece of steel not to be evident. One question would be had the 🤡 opened up the chest and seen the damage, removed the pin and what parts of the slipper that he saw and then flicked on the bike on.bronx wrote: ↑20 Sep 2023, 4:50 pmYep, and the issue is where the hell did the pin go. Re: Tips for removing pushrods from an 88ci v-twin?
You know what, I would say that's likely. Once I cut open the filter and confirm it's not filled with little pieces of pin, I'll have to assume that's what happened. I can't think where else it could have got to...VonGruff wrote: ↑20 Sep 2023, 5:04 pmIt is a substantial piece of steel not to be evident. Funny thing is he tried telling me he'd taken the cam cover off to put a new cam in it, saw it had an upgraded cam already, so didn't bother and put it all back together - which I thought was odd as you could tell by the sound of the bike it had a cam. The idiot probably saw and did exactly what you said. Can't stand assholes like this... if the engine locks up on you there's every chance the tyre can lock up with it. Dangerous. What a POS.

Re: Tips for removing pushrods from an 88ci v-twin?
Sounds like a mongrel...
Did you manage to cut the filter open? They're really fine filters so I'd say there would have been nothing that got through it, however there could be pieces that got stuck in there.
