2004 v-twin lifter orientation
2004 v-twin lifter orientation
Does anyone know which way the lifter oil feed holes should face (in the v-twin)? Towards or away from the engine?
Some resources say the same way they came out (mine were facing out), Dr. Harley says facing in. Can't spot it in the service manual I have.
Anyone able to confirm? 😁

Re: 2004 v-twin lifter orientation
All of mine have come out hole facing out. Not sure if that's correct or not, they might be able to go in either way.
@VonGruff will probably know 😂

I've always known the oil hole to face in. I do mine in. Not at home to check the service manual but I can report back later if needed.
Dr. Harley agrees 😎
Dr. Harley:
Hey there! When it comes to the lifters on your 2004 Road King 88ci, the orientation does matter. The lifters should be installed with the oil feed hole facing towards the engine. This allows oil to lubricate the lifter properly.
If your lifters were removed with the oil feed hole facing outwards, it's advisable to install them correctly with the oil feed hole facing inwards towards the engine. This will ensure proper oil flow and lubrication to the lifters.
If you're not sure, it's always a good idea to consult the service manual or reach out to a qualified Harley-Davidson technician for expert advice. They'll be able to guide you through the correct installation process.
Take care and ride safe! Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks guys. Yea I've found a few other YouTube videos and it's about 50/50 for those saying in and those saying out. I'm going to say it's in.

Re: 2004 v-twin lifter orientation
FYI - I've been able to confirm that orientation doesn't matter. The oil feed hole can face in or out. The oil feed in the lifter housing hits the side of the lifter so the oil will feed through the lifter hole whether it's facing in or out.
