Re: What upgrades are you making to your bike?
I've got the tuner in already. I ordered it from Fuel Moto so I could get them to send me a "custom" map with it (they do this free if you buy the tuner from them), as their maps seem to be much better than the base Dynojet map. HD Auckland also sell them, normally i'd have just gone that route but with the free map I thought it was worth getting it in.
I already had a higher air flow filter so i've done a couple of really short rides after flashing the tune and I feel its made quite a difference. Power feels smoother, and the throttle low down feels less jerky which is something I always hated about this bike. Very small sample size, I will know more once I get the filter on and take it for a proper ride.
I am going to get a proper tune at some point in the near future. The PV4 is pretty cool tbh, mobile interface is easy to use. Maps are all stored in the cloud, and Fuel Moto can just send one to your Dynojet account and it just appears for example. PV4 lacks wide band O2 sensors support currently, but its coming apparently.
Changing out the primary and transmission oil made the shift a million times better 😀 , first time I have done it as I haven't had the bike long. Stuff that came out didn't look that bad to be honest, but night and day difference.

Nice work! Haven't heard of Fuel Moto before - I'll check them out.Lostboy wrote: ↑15 Nov 2023, 10:06 am I've got the tuner in already. Re: What upgrades are you making to your bike?
I got my rack back from the chromers and fitted to the bike. I started with a sporty solo seat rack.

Cut the brackets off and straightened the bends.

Made some new bracketry and welded it on, cleaned up as much as I could and sent it off to the chromers in ChCh and with it back today got it fitted in place with the front secured by the seat locating screw and the rear fixed to the top of the number plate bracket. I put a piece of thin deck rubber between the two brackets and bolted it in place.

Next I will make a leather rack bag for when we are away and need a little storage space.

Re: What upgrades are you making to your bike?
decided to spend the day getting the rack bag started. I had bought a 1/2 side of 1.5mm leather and marked out the patterns I had spent some time making and re-making to get the best size and shape for the small rack and it turned out it will give me quite a bit of space when the bag is finished.

After dyeing what will be the outside of the bag and some of the top inside edges, then marked out the stitching lines and drilled the holes ready for a few hours with the needles.

Some hours later it was all stitched together (inside out) with saddle stitching.

Being reasonable thick leather it took quite a bit to turn it the right side out but eventually it was done. With some straps cut I got the buckles and closing straps sewn on and put it aside for the day. Next I will get the straps done to secure it to the rack and back of the pillion back rest. I also have a 3mm piece of micarta that I will put on the underside to save for sag and will put something on the underside of each corner to keep the bag protected when it is off the rack. May put a grab handle on the back to carry it from the bike to sleeping quarters if we use it for an over nighter some time.

Re: What upgrades are you making to your bike?
Got everything finished although I had run out of the correct dye so will go over it again at some stage to make it an even colour .
These is one wide holding strap over the seat back pad and a narrow strap buckled around under the pad to hold it all in place.

I may yet add another buckled strap at the back from underneath bar and up to the bag but will see how it travels first.
I have put a piece of 3mm micarta underneath to stop any sag over the rack and to sit it on when (if) we are away and stopping somewhere overnight. At the moment I have some chicago screws to hold it on but will get acorn nuts for machine screws when in town tomorrow. The leather washers will not be on the outside after I get the replacment screws but will have one under the head of the screw on the inside.

It was such a nice afternoon I finished it with a very pleasant 85k run down through the gorge and back again.

Have just ordered a S&S Quickee Adjustable Pushrod Kit https://rolliesspeedshop.com/shop/engin ... 1999-2017/
and FE-7090 OE+ Conversion Cam Plate Kit; BT'99-06 https://rolliesspeedshop.com/shop/engin ... 1999-2006/
I had not originally intended to go this far and had bought Fueling Timkin inner and outer bearing kit and a gasket kit so have them on hand should anyone need or want them

Nice! Has it got an aftermarket cam in it already? And doing the work yourself?VonGruff wrote: ↑28 Nov 2023, 6:01 pm Have just ordered a S&S Quickee Adjustable Pushrod Kit https://rolliesspeedshop.com/shop/engin ... 1999-2017/

Re: What upgrades are you making to your bike?
not got a cam as we are still working through which one to go for ( looking at bolt in increased duration rather than more lift) and no not doing the work myself. There are lots of things I am happy to do / try, but inside the engine cases is not something I am familiar with so will leave it to those whose abilities lie in that direction.bronx wrote: ↑28 Nov 2023, 6:27 pmNice! Re: What upgrades are you making to your bike?
The new hydraulic cam chain adjuster conversion plate with a nice box full of other needed goodies along with the adjustable pushrod kit arrived today and have the Andrews cam on the way so it will be into the new year before all is ready for the swap over. Looking forward to the cam change with a stronger roll on power band.

Re: What upgrades are you making to your bike?
All the parts are in the truck and the bike will go on the trailer to be delivered to Kevs shop in the morning. A great week for weather so hope to get it back to take advantage toward the ebnd of the week.
Have got a set of the HD copy of the Kuryakyn iso grips with the palm rest on the way as I have got a ride through to Murchison at the end of the month and my right hand fingers suffer from the years of (heavier than normal) hammer use. The tendon lubrication has eroded over the years and one finger locks up at times being more than a bit painfull and I am hoping the palm rest will give them a rest on the longer rides. May also make internal bar end weights to reduce the hand tingles as well

Re: What upgrades are you making to your bike?
I recently got the same grips minus the palm rest. Quite comfy being a larger diameter. Kind of wish I got the palm rest now.

Re: What upgrades are you making to your bike?
It was the palm rest that primarily interested me so I could give my middle finger a rest. I spent years using a heavier than usual hammer on the building sites and that caused wear on the tendons so it locks up at times and causes a bit of pain so I usually ride with it relaxed and off the grip (when I remember or pain makes me do so. I got a set of larger grips thinking I could use more palm than fingers to hold and to a point that has worked but the palm rest will be a big help. If you have the same grips then there may be palm rests available to screw on under the end cap or alternatively I have one of these that is self holding on any grip set. I paid $5 for it

Re: What upgrades are you making to your bike?
Was talking to Kev and my bike is done but they are doing another test ride in the morning so and I can pick it then. He had a tuner for it so that should be an improvement. I am going to ride through to Murchison at the end of the month at about 740 km so looking forward to trying her out over the longer distance.

Re: What upgrades are you making to your bike?
Have had the bike back for a couple of days and done a few 100 ks and given her a 35000 k engine oil change. To say I am pleased with the cam chest upgrades would be a gross understatement. I had a set of reversion cones and with them installed as well as all the other upgrades there is a increase in clean fuel air mix. The reversion cones make for high pressure through the cones which makes for a low pressure in the first few inches of the header pipe so that on the overlap there is much less, to no foul air being drawn back into the chamber. The TW21 cam is reported to work best in the 2000 to 5000 rpm range and as I believe that 60mph is right in the 2500rpm so it is really starting to shine by then.
This is a rpm chart that is close enough for an idea of where this cam is working but I can feel it right from idle
10 mph in 1st gear is around 2000 rpm
20 mph in 2nd gear is around 2000 rpm
30 mph in 3th gear is around 2000 rpm
40 mph in 4th gear is around 2000 rpm, 50 mph is around 2500 and 60 around 3000
50 mph in 5th gear is around 2000 rpm, 60 mph is around 2500 and 70 around 3000.

Awesome news @VonGruff! Keen to hear how it sounds now - throw up a video of the bike running when you get a chance if possible 😁

Stage 2 with Andrews 21 cam so not as lumpy as some but perfect for legal road speeds with added torque where it is needed.

Sounds bloody awesome on my computer hooked up to my big B&W speakers 👌

I changed my indicators because tiny Aliexpress led ones are the way to go. I also replaced the aftermarket ally fender struts back to stock chrome (thanks Kees) and worked out how to mount the saddlebags that Kees also gave me. In return he gets a Twin Disc brake master cylinder and lines and some new and cute indicators for his Evo Softail.

Fueling 525 would be my recommendation, or anything that is described as a bolt-in cam for baggers, that'll give you what you are looking for.VonGruff wrote: ↑28 Nov 2023, 7:56 pmnot got a cam as we are still working through which one to go for ( looking at bolt in increased duration rather than more lift) and no not doing the work myself. Added some bling to tidy up the sissy bar. Impressed with the quality of that chrome badge.

I went with Andrews TW21 and am very pleased with it. More duration with a little more lift and it comes on at 2thou revs so right where I need it to work. Did the 1500k run to Murchison and back where it averaged out at 5.25liters per 100k even with running about 125kph where clear to do so.Spanners39 wrote: ↑28 Feb 2024, 12:45 pmFueling 525 would be my recommendation, or anything that is described as a bolt-in cam for baggers, that'll give you what you are looking for.

Re: What upgrades are you making to your bike?
Have sent my seat away to be re-shaped and covered. The seat is comfortable to sit on for extended rides but a bump in the road at speed has had me sliding back and up the curve a bit

Have given Craig this pic to as a base design that will stop any rearward and upward slide and give a bit of lumbar stop/suport. Called in to his workshop on the way home from an 8 day break away in the caravan (2015km) and after a decent yarn was able to leave some of the fancy/bling stitching to his experienced artistic ability.

Got a text from Craig to say he had got the base re shaped done on my seat today. Really pleased with how it is looking at this stage.

Re: What upgrades are you making to your bike?
Looks good @VonGruff.
Is he going to curve the back area too or leave it straight?
