Riding with others.

by VonGruff -

Some of us either ride mostly alone or occasionally with a friend  but the way you ride with others is marked by the trust you have in their riding skill. Most will ride in a staggered formation and I have always been in favour of the position that reflects where I ride every time I am on my own. I divide the road in thirds and ride a third of the width from the white line and that way I have (usually) 2/3 of my lane to the edge of the road and about the same distance between me and the vehicles in the other lane so I have max distance available to make riding adjustments if the need arises due to whatever cause we may find on the road. I do move to the third of the road closest to the left edge of the road for oncoming heavy trucks and most particularly if they are flat noses with boxed sides while often a long nose without a curtain sided type of trailer does not push as much wind sideways toward me but always aware of stones or grit getting thrown up in their passing.

This on the other hand has to be some of the most precise double paired riding I have ever seen among such a large number of riders.
